Kent-based producer Gusbourne made its first wines in 2006 and is well-established among the leading flight of sparkling wine producers in England, and also makes still wines. After a stainless-steel ferment, this was matured for eight months in French oak, a fifth of it new - something the exceptional quality and ripeness of the 2018 vintage allowed for. Aromas are of bright red cherries and cranberries, with black pepper spiciness also coming through on the mid-palate. A firm acid spine keeps the generous density of crunchy red fruits, fine tannins and aromatic smokiness in upright frame. This wine will become available in 2020.
