This Somerset estate has long taken an uncompromising, low-intervention approach and is committed to crafting highly individual, at times challenging wines. Smith describes Trilogy as his ‘homage to Krug’, and number 2 is a multi-vintage blend of 40% 2015, 30% 2014, 20% 2013 and 10% older reserve wine. The 2015 vintage was made at Furleigh Estate, where the wine was also bottled with zero dosage. Susie Barrie MW: Generous, nutty, spicy, bruised and oxidative aromas. Very dry but has the character to cope. Quite challenging. A real wine lovers’ fizz. Matt Hodgson: Round and warm, a breakfast table of buttered toast, cinnamon muffin and apple juice. Dror Nativ MW: A ripe style with red apple and yellow plum. Well-integrated notes of toasted almond and gentle autolysis. Lingering finish, well crafted.
