The formidable team of Dermot and Ana Sugrue acquired their own vineyard in East Sussex in 2023. Having established a winery, their portfolio now includes 10 sparkling and still wines. This 11th release of The Trouble with Dreams is a multi-vintage blend comprising 40% of the small 2021 vintage and 60% reserve wine dating back to 2011. A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from 20-year-old vines, it was partly fermented in 500L ex-Burgundy puncheons. Following 36 months on lees, it was bottled with a dosage of 6g/L. Susie Barrie MW: Reductive, mineral and herbal. A dry, savoury style that offers plenty of flavour. Although dry it has a nicely balanced, saline finish. Matt Hodgson: A nose that is somewhat closed but hints at depths. Great length and development, waves of ripe apple, vanilla, brioche and lemon. Dror Nativ MW: Citrus blossom and roasted chestnut. Tight-knit palate of citrus and green apple. Great concentration and richness.
