Amuse Bouche was founded in 2002 by winemaker Heidi Barrett and longtime friend John Schwartz with the aim of producing a small-batch interpretation of a Pomerol-style Merlot. Each vintage carries an original work commissioned from a noted artist. The 2023, featuring Jennifer Garant’s Days of Wine and Roses, comprises 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc, aged for 16 months in 60% new French oak. Jonathan Cristaldi: A coiled-up energy makes me think this will cellar quite well, but it can be enjoyed in its youth. Balanced, expressive, elegant, and driven by restraint. Jenica Flippo: Intense black and red fruit aromas. Velvety and decadent on the palate, showing plump plum fruit with a savoury backbone. Cara Patricia: Very soft and luxurious, tannins like a mink coat. Black fruit and botanical garden aromas, green moss and orchid. Really bringing out the heights of Napa Merlot.
