At first sip, the 2023 Cuvée Karatas feels powerful yet welcoming - in the best way. A blend of about 55% Sémillon and 45% Sauvignon Blanc, with fruit from Monte Rosso (Sémillon from vines planted in the 1880s) along with younger plantings at Bedrock and Judge vineyards (Sauvignon Blanc). It shows an elegant mix of weight and lift, with aromas of persimmon, ripe pear, and a warm, gentle nuttiness. There was no lees stirring after fermentation, yet there’s plenty of texture and weight to make this a medium- to full-bodied wine. The finish is fresh and high in acidity, carrying through beautifully and keeping the wine in balance.
