This new wine in 2023 comes from The Bird’s Nest, three small parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon perched at 1,300 feet (396 metres) in altitude, looking down over Lake Hennessey along the Vaca Range on western-facing slopes. The vineyard is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon across multiple rootstocks and three different clones, with this wine representing a blend of those blocks, primarily drawn from the highest parcel overlooking much of Napa Valley. The wine was aged for 20 months in 75% new French oak. A full-bodied and expressive Cabernet, it delivers a silky, satiny dark-fruit profile supported by a bed of precise tannins that feel velvety and lacy across the palate, finishing with plenty of verve and energy to support layers of dark berry fruit and loamy earth. Powerful mountain structure underpins all that juicy, lovely dark fruit.
