Broc Cellars, one of the cool Berkeley-based urban wineries, is known for its commitment to minimal intervention. They’ve been working with fruit from the Michael Mara Vineyard for more than a decade, so the team is quite familiar with the site. The vineyard, planted by Steve Matthiasson, sits along the Sonoma Mountain range within the Sonoma Coast. The 2023 vintage appears slightly cloudy in the glass, yet the nose is clean and fresh, with aromas of citrus, herbs, and a hint of savory tones. Fermentation and ageing happen in Austrian Stockinger oak puncheons, with about 10 months on the lees, which adds a nice texture to the palate. The finish stays bright with a touch of salinity.
