Sorenson is the most classically structured wine of the current Burgess Cellars lineup, from vines at the base of Howell Mountain, but not in the AVA. The original 1980s plantings were mostly Zinfandel, but it has been replanted to Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as head-trained Carignan and Cinsault. It is intensely earthy and structured with meaty aromas and dried rose petals. Medium- to full-bodied with dark blackberry, cassis, and liquorice. Elongated tannins lend structure, and while this style is quite a departure for any readers familiar with previous vintages of Burgess Cellars, there’s a lot of energy, tension, and intrigue to excite.
