An astounding Syrah, it comes from the upper slopes of the Escolle Vineyard, the Cariccoli estate. The Syrah blocks are among the site’s rockiest, with chipped granite throughout the soils. Feral and gamy, this is a stunning Syrah that is oh-so-evocative of the Northern Rhône. Notes of struck iron lead a mineral tone on the nose, with singed violets, wild woodland and bramble fruits, ferrous minerality, and a bloody, amaro herbal note. This is a beautiful bottle of Syrah that sings of Old World elegance but is undeniably a variety and style with a very bright future for the SLH.
