<p>Donn Chappellet was the first grower, in 1967, to plant vineyards in the verdant Pritchard Hill area that lies a few miles east of Rutherford, later followed by prestigious producers such as Colgin and Bryant. Limited production keeps prices high, but the quality is consistently good. This 2005 is showing just slight evolution, with dense, smoky, spicy aromas and an attractive cedary character. It&#39;s fleshy and rounded, showing heft and power without obscuring the core of blackcurrant fruit. The acidity is modest, yet the wine remains lively, with a finish that&#39;s spicy, complex, and persistent.</p>
