The first in a string of cool vintages in Napa. Montelena was purchased in 2008 by Bordeaux's second-growth, Château Cos-d'Estournel. Ironically this vintage of Cabernet has Bordeaux elements, written all over it. The wine has begun to take on secondary aromatics of earth and minerality, previous winemaker Cameron Perry took this vintage in a more European approach and it shows. The palate is earthy, forest floor, pine tar and pomegranate molasses mark the palate.
