This blend has been produced since 2002, incorporating Sauvignon Gris, which was chosen for its ability to retain acidity—unlike Sémillon, which can lose acidity in the riper parts of the valley. The fruit is sourced from a 24-hectare site in Rutherford, with the remainder going to their sister property, Rutherford Hill, in Napa. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed and fermented in a combination of new French oak, stainless steel, and different yeast strains, followed by six months of ageing prior to bottling. A beautifully aromatic wine, it offers real intensity on both the nose and palate, with a rich, generous, and unctuous texture that lingers impressively. Ripe stone fruit and lavish baking spices mingle with a pure, layered expression of honeysuckle and crushed salted almonds. The wine has excellent length and tension, yet remains utterly delicious and inviting. Chimney Rock has been owned by the Terlato family since 2004, with Elizabeth Vianna at the helm since 2002, officially named winemaker in 2005.
