Elevage is Chimney Rock's proprietary blend that utilises fruit from their many varied estate blocks, rounded out with Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, giving winemaker Elizabeth Vianna a chance to show off her chops as a blender. It's a fantastic show-stopper of a wine in 2023, bringing, for me, the power and intensity I find in Arrowhead with the lifted energy and brightness of Tomahawk, infused with everything else you find across the property, from black cherry, blackberry, plum, and blue-fruit nuances, to notes of sandalwood, sage, and anise. Supple, juicy, fragrant, with silk-satin tannins and plump, ripe fruits. Round river rock minerality, perfumed violets, florals, and a dusting of cocoa powder round out the full-bodied finish. A great wine with plenty of energy and verve.
