Clif Family Winery was founded by Clif Bar energy bar creators Gary Erickson and Kit Crawford, with its first wines bottled from the 2003 vintage. The family farms vineyards and food crops in Napa Valley. Winemaker Laura Barrett oversees the wines. The Climber 2023 blends 68% Merlot with 32% Cabernet Sauvignon and spent 16 months in French oak, using 20% new barrels and 80% neutral oak. Jonathan Cristaldi: Spiced plum with nicely integrated cedar wood and elegant graphite minerality shining on nose and palate. Densely packed, this has a dash of wild herbs and it’s all framed by polished, ripe tannins. Jenica Flippo: Robust blue and black fruits, purple flowers, a little tobacco, star anise and fennel fill the palate. Firm tannins linger along with the fruit and savoury notes. Cara Patricia: A classically styled blend, this has a juicy mid-palate of rounded red fruits.
