Winemaker Allison Tauziet notes that the estate’s three Syrah clones originate from Côte-Rôtie. The John Alban selection delivers a classic Syrah profile—charcuterie and cracked pepper notes—while ENTAV 877 is markedly perfumed. ENTAV 471, a small-berry clone, contributes darker fruit tones with distinctly garrigue and black olive nuances. The clones are co-fermented in open-top stainless steel with full destemming to preserve the purity of the fruit, followed by approximately 20 months of aging in 50–60% new Burgundian barrels. The result is one of the most captivating wines I have tasted from Napa Valley. Seamless, suave, and sumptuous, it is the pleasure palace of your dreams. Intensely perfumed violets and blue-black fruits unfurl alongside gorgeous white truffle, charcuterie, and white pepper notes, with bright sage lifting the aromatic profile. Velvety, with polished tannins, and a lengthy, saline, crushed gravel, slate, and graphite mineral finish. This is a wine that is nearly impossible to put down. Colgin Cellars' inaugural wine was the 1992 Herb Lamb Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1998, Ann Colgin acquired a 125-acre parcel on Pritchard Hill overlooking Lake Hennessy, planted 20 acres and established the estate winery. The rugged site is defined by woodlands and steep terrain, with soils of weathered volcanic lava flow, well-drained reddish clays, and fractured igneous rock. Today, the vineyard is divided into 24 blocks planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Syrah.
