Owner Steve Contursi points to the north and south blocks of his estate property in southern Napa. He believes the north block has the quality to stand on its own as a single-vineyard expression, which he has named Lady Liberty Vineyard. Under the Coronet label, two new wines are being introduced for both on- and off-premise markets: an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon and the Lady Liberty Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The latter comes from a single block distinguished by its lighter, turned-stone soils, as well as subtle variations in rootstock and clonal material. This Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 22 months in 65% new French oak. The wine is bold, refined, and energetic, with excellent fruit depth and layers of perfumed red berry fruit and dark brown spice. It shows tremendous vitality and tension on the palate, underscored by a fine line of salinity that settles gracefully at the mid-palate, like a sprinkle of sea salt, and carries through the finish. The tannins are polished yet firm, lending grip and structure. A remarkable wine for an inaugural release aimed squarely at restaurants and retail.
