In 2020, when wildfires engulfed the primary fruit source for Covenant's Syrah, miraculously, winemaker Jeff Morgan was able to source grapes from one of the high bluffs of Santa Maria Valley's iconic Bien Nacido vineyard. The wine he fashioned in 2020 was outstanding, and this 2021 follow-up is simply splendid, with gorgeous pure blackberry fruit aromas nuanced by heady perfumed violets, sage, and cedarwood. The satiny medium- to full-bodied palate reveals a seamless wine with no edges, only lush and succulent blackberry, black cherry, raspberry fruit notes and plenty of hefty Syrah muscle. Suppled tannins build on the finish balanced by juicy blood orange acidity. Long, lingering and delicious. (Kosher)
