From the winery’s organically farmed estate Hershey Vineyard on Howell Mountain at 1,800 feet (549 metres) in elevation; this site forms a natural bowl with varied aspects, soil types, row orientations, and plantings. Soils include Forward silt series and Boomer loam. The wine is aged for 25 months in 100% new oak. Powerful, intense, bold, and robust, the wine offers black cherry and dried rose petal notes layered over formidable Howell Mountain tannins marked by a wet slate and stony mineral character. Despite the ample structure, there is a striking purity of fruit that seems to float above the foundation. Hints of white pepper, sagebrush, and a touch of bay laurel freshness emerge, leading into a lengthy, expressive finish.
