A tremendously elegant Syrah from the Bassi Vineyard on the SLO Coast. From Darren Delmore ‘This wine is from 20+-year-old Syrah Clone Noir farmed biodynamically, only 1.2 miles from the ocean. Barely two barrels are produced from vines yielding a half-ton of grapes per acre on sandstone.’ It's a case study of the relaxed climate elegance you can achieve with Syrah: violets, eucalyptus aromas, and a bassline of iodine and salty sea air. The palate is lithe, filigreed red fruits and smoky clove mingle with dried thyme and wild mint. This will age wonderfully, but he is drinking beautifully at the moment.
