This wine shows the vineyard’s signature dark berry fruit, but without the overt creaminess sometimes associated with the site. Instead, it leans into darker-toned fruit, layered with brown baking spices and nuances of crushed cacao nibs, alongside fragrant pine forest and underbrush notes. The sense of tension here is striking, driven by piercing, mouth-watering acidity, and the wine carries exceptional length and intensity. Set along rugged mountain terrain on the westernmost edge of Sonoma County in the West Sonoma Coast appellation, Annapolis Ridge Vineyard is planted on steep 30-degree slopes of Goldridge fine sandy loam. Cold marine air and heavy morning fog slow the ripening process, allowing flavours to develop gradually while preserving pronounced acidity. The grapes were hand-harvested on 6 October, fermented in open-top fermenters with hand punch-downs, and aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak.
