This wine is wonderfully fragrant and texturally rich, with good vinous grip, but loads of red berry fruits, subtle apricot notes, and cherry pit, with expressive acidity and lovely floral notes on the long, fruit-driven finish. Dosage was 0.9g/L residual sugar. Named for Madame de la Pompadour, who introduced Champagne to the court of Versailles. She is pictured in a large portrait at the winery in Carneros, a gift from the Taittinger family. Rather than adding red wine to produce a rosé, the colour comes from macerated Pinot Noir during a cold soak before fermentation for 1-3 days, which is then drained off and fermented. Domaine Carneros owns six non-contiguous vineyards totaling 161ha, all within Carneros, of which a little over half is in Sonoma (93.4ha in Sonoma and 72.4ha in Napa). There are roughly 40ha surrounding the winery. The planting ratio is 62% Pinot Noir to 38% Chardonnay, the blend for this non-vintage rosé.
