This wine is incredibly electric and vibrant, generating an energy all its own. It reverberates from the aromatics through to the finish, driven by expressive saline acidity, hints of beeswax, flinty minerality and salted lemon peel. Fragrant brioche and gentle baking spice add depth, while the palate is penetrating and deeply flavourful. It is a transformative, transporting wine—one that sends you to Burgundy in spirit—so fresh, so inviting, and impressively long. This 100% Chardonnay is fermented with native yeast in barrel, aged for 17 months in 33% new French oak. The fruit comes from approximately one hectare of Clone 4 Chardonnay planted on a west-facing, very cold, certified-organic block within Devoto Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Clone 4, known for its naturally high acidity, delivers a strong site signature here, with vines rooted in sandy Goldridge soils. ‘They call this a Donelan monopole,’ muses winemaker David Milner, who oversees the farming and all picking decisions, noting that the Donelans have been harvesting this fruit since 2012.
