This Kobler Family Vineyard Syrah combines 10% Viognier in this vintage. Polished with precision and intensity. Roughly 30% whole cluster, and only neutral oak ageing on the Viognier. Tight, compact, and with air, it reveals expressive blue fruits, violets, Sichuan pepper, and crunchy cherry notes. Wonderfully granular tannins with palate-etching seriousness are nicely integrated and framed by a firm backbone of grippy acidity, which finds further lift in the wine's juicy blackberry fruit and mocha spices, which broadens the intensity of the palate. White pepper seasoning and flashy cedarwood spices add intrigue. Hold these as long as possible, as the wine will mature and develop over the next two decades. Proprietor Joe Donelan loves the wines of Côte Rôtie. He calls them his 'magic carpet ride' and adds that he draws Syrah's inspiration from Rene Rostaing's wines. With great intensity, Joe expresses his perfect pairing with this Syrah--rack of lamb or venison.
