Winemaker Sarah Vandendriessche says that when Jean-Charles Boisset purchased Elizabeth Spencer in late 2021, he wanted to ensure the portfolio included a Rutherford bottling that could be offered in the wholesale market at a true wholesale price. The wine is quite pretty, avoiding the overripe character that marked much of the vintage once the heat dome settled in. Aromatics centre on tobacco notes, violets, and cherry and blackberry fruits, with warm baking spices that turn to spiced plum on the medium-bodied palate. The finish carries a freshness that is hard to come by in many 2022s.
