Year after year, The Jemma—a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Cabernet Franc, aged for 22 months in new French oak—is a super polished and expressive wine. Ultra-silky and deeply concentrated, it offers plush blackberry fruit intertwined with notes of liquorice, juniper, sage, and the invigorating brown spice freshness evocative of a walk through a redwood forest. The tannins are exceptionally plush, imbued with a mineral-saline character that enhances the fruit's richness, leading to a full-bodied, seamless finish. Given the challenges of the warm 2022 growing season, this is a remarkable achievement, showcasing an extraordinary silkiness and precision of fruit character. A project by brothers Neil and Lance Ellman, natives of South Africa, the wine is crafted by esteemed winemaker Andy Erickson (formerly of Screaming Eagle and co-owner of Favia), with associate winemaker Patrick Neyholt. Sourced from their 8-hectare parcel at the base of Soda Canyon, in the shadow of Atlas Peak, this wine embodies its creators' unique terroir and meticulous craftsmanship.
