From the cool Sonoma Coast estate site acquired by Emeritus Vineyards in 2007. This site in the cool Sebastopol Hills sits on a north-south ridge with steep grades. There is very little direct sunlight that ever sees the vines in this bottling's eastern blocks. This is earthen and elegant from the start. Smoky florals, energetic marine air salinity and tart, almost electric red fruit notes of wild strawberries and mint leap from the glass. The palate shows wild, fresh Mediterranean scrub, dried lavender and briny oystershell minerality framing tart raspberries, blood orange zest and a smoky citrus note. The Pinot Hill bottlings are my favourite from the fantastic 2021s made by Emeritus Vineyards the second effort of Brice Cutrer Jones upon selling Sonoma-Cutrer, established in 1999.
