Napa Valley

Cork

A terrific wine from this estate in 2022, showing both the rocky, mineral, warm-stone intensity of the site and the ripe, juicy, succulent dark-berry fruit courtesy of a hot vintage. Ultra-soft tannins make this wine so easy to drink. Inky black and even blue fruit meets with fig jam, warm baking spices, and toasty oak. Full-bodied and crushable. Sourced from the RCF Vineyard, which runs along the bank of Simmons Creek on the winery's Calistoga estate and was first planted in 1985 with Merlot bud-wood from the famed Three Palms Vineyard, located just to the south on Silverado Trail. A blend of 40% Malbec, 40% Petit Verdot, and 20% Merlot. Whole-berry fermented in open-top oak and concrete fermenters, aged 22 months in French oak barrels (40% new). Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
