Almar is a true coastal Chardonnay expression from Flowers’ Camp Meeting Ridge in the Fort Ross–Seaview AVA. This is a single-block wine from a parcel planted in fractured sandstone soils, just two miles away from the Pacific. Long-time Flowers winemaker Chantal Forthun calls this block the 'core of the identity of the vineyard'. In 2023, less than a ton of fruit came off the 20 rows of vines in the tiny 0.6-hectare (1.5-acre) parcel. With no new oak in 2023, the nose is salty and slightly reductive at first, showing hints of seaweed before opening into pleasant citrus tones. On the palate, green apple skins and mandarin peel are softened by a touch of citrus cream that carries through a silky mid-palate. There’s a nice tension on the finish, long and vibrant. It's truly a stunning coastal Chardonnay.
