Yellow apple and quince leap from the glass, joined by persimmon and baking spices. The mid-palate shows crunchy apple-skin tannin, with a lemon oil brightness and a chalky mineral edge, while toasty oak nuances build through the finish. Sourced primarily from Stanly Ranch on the Napa side of Carneros, with additional fruit from Cold Creek Vineyard on the Sonoma side (where sandy, well-draining soils planted to Dijon and Wente clones contribute freshness), this wine is picked early to preserve energy. Approximately 50% undergoes native fermentation, with lees stirred weekly once fermentation slows for around three months, then every two weeks for the remainder of ageing. An impressive wine for the price point. Owner Joseph Carr (founder of Josh and Joseph Carr, a New York State native, and former ballet dancer and wrestler) brings the force, while winemaker Jean Hoefliger provides the grace.
