<p>The late Joe Heitz was a pioneer of single-vineyard Cabernet wines, and Martha&#39;s Vineyard in Oakville which was first made in 1966, was always the jewel in his crown. The wine often displayed a distinctive eucalyptus character, but Heitz believed this tone was derived from the clone planted here rather than from nearby trees. The wine was magnificent when young but has not aged brilliantly. On this showing the nose is silky and charred and lacks freshness. Although rich, plump, and concentrated, the palate lacks some brightness and polish. It has length but seems evolved.</p>
