The High Ranch site in Coombsville is a vineyard originally owned by the Kongsgaard family and later sold to the Gutterson family, who retain ownership today. Planted in 2017 by winemaker Sam Kaplan alongside viticulturist Mike Wolf, the label debuted with a first release in 2021, skipped 2022, and returned with the 2023 vintage as the second official release, from vines now seven years old. Kaplan selected a small number of barrels that he felt best expressed the site but required extended élévage, ageing the wine an extra year in barrel, and producing just 100 cases for this bottling. The 2023 highlights the vintage’s freshness, marked by lifted cassis and mixed red berry fruit, classic Coombsville sagebrush and loamy earth, unsmoked tobacco, and fine-grained tannins underscore blood-orange-accented acidity and gravelly mineral character.
