A blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Malbec, aged for 18 months in 50% new French oak. Harvested very early on 17 September, the grapes underwent a four-day cold soak before fermentation with William Selyem yeast at warm temperatures over six days to maximise fruit expression and complexity. The wine was pressed to barrel and underwent a slow secondary fermentation for another six weeks before reaching dryness. Sourced from Atlas Peak's Baker Vineyard, the 2022 vintage is marked by the power and intensity of its mountain fruit origins but also reflects the warmth, softness, and generosity of the red- and black-toned fruit character so evident from the warm vintage. Typically burly and powerful, the mountain tannins show a softer, more velvety edge in 2022, while the juicy, generous fruit brings out additional baking spice nuances from the oak ageing. Still a powerful wine, it offers an approachable and enjoyable profile, making it perfect to drink now while those structured 2021s continue to develop in the cellar.
