Doug and Darci Hill founded their estate in 2001 after two decades growing grapes for leading Napa wineries. The family now farms about 49ha across multiple valley sites, with Kari Auringer leading the winemaking team. Like a Hawk 2023 is an unconventional blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah, 8% Malbec and 1% Viognier. It was matured for 16 months in French oak, 60% new. Jonathan Cristaldi: Vanilla-laced cherry and blue-black fruits with violet floral notes. Generous, sweetly spiced palate, ironstone minerals and a long, fruit-driven finish. Downright delicious. Jenica Flippo: An inky Cabernet-Syrah blend that shows depth and concentration, with notes of game, cracked pepper and savoury spice. Plump yet firm tannins give this wine impressive length. Cara Patricia: Forest-fruit yoghurt character in a wine that needs time in the bottle to come together.
