This wine is sourced from a site across from the Las Posadas Vineyard on Howell Mountain. Winemaker Aaron Pott makes the wine at his "Black Lab" winery in south Napa, which he established in 2018. It's a state-of-the-art facility, and Pott produces many of his clients' wines there. This Merlot is aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak. Exploding from the glass reveals pure fruit aromas of spiced plums, dried violets, lavender, and a hint of blood orange zest and mocha. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is layered with complex spice notes, intricate tannins, and brown baking spices, nuanced by dried sage and mountain grass rooted in loamy earth, weaving seamlessly into a long and satisfying finish—Howell Mountain intensity but with great finesse.
