The Old Master Vineyard is a small 1.13-hectare parcel planted to both Cabernet Franc and Merlot. It is named in tribute to the Renaissance Old Masters for their famed craftsmanship. The wine was barrelled down to 85% new French oak barrels and bottled unfiltered and unfined after 24 months. A very lovely mix of the two varieties from this block, with the Merlot bringing a kind of plush generosity as well as tannin, and the Cabernet Franc contributing rich loamy earth, tobacco, and cedarwood notes, along with a touch of fennel, black liquorice, and expressive tannins. It is a very serious wine, but also very easy to drink and quite lovely.
