Phoenix is a barrel selection Bordeaux-style blend sourced from multiple vineyard sites (Laughing Lands, Church, Diablo & Old Master) on the Hudson ranch. The wine was named after the 2017 wildfires swept through the estate, miraculously avoiding the original buildings from the 1980s. Aged in 50% new Sylvain, Taransaud, Darnajou, Francois Freres, and Atelier oak barrels, then bottled unfiltered and unfined after 24 months. This is a power-packed red wine, robust, showing the power and intensity of vines planted on these varied sites. Blue-black and red fruit notes kick it off, then wet slate and graphite, with brighter notes of blood orange and toasty cedarwood, culminating in crushed cocoa nibs on a lengthy, full-bodied finish framed by bright wild herbs.
