In 2015, beverage giant The Wine Group acquired Benziger and its sister brand Imagery. While Benziger is devoted to Cabernet and Chardonnay, Imagery focuses on more obscure varieties: Tannat, Cinsault, Tempranillo, Lagrein – and Cabernet Franc. A crowd-pleaser style (with 5% Malbec), this is packed with sweet cherry and blueberry laced with vanilla and spice. Purists may find it ‘too Californian’, but the hedonism is undeniable.
