The JH Wheeler label represents a portfolio of wines from Wheeler Farms, a winery co-founded by Bart and Daphne Araujo and partners in 2014. Today, the estate is owned by Susanne Deal Booth, who purchased the winery in 2024. Wheeler Farms works with a number of top Napa Valley vineyards, with Nigel Kinsman at the helm in the cellar. In 2023, the wine is incredibly polished and suave, offering blue and blackberry fruit layered with cocoa nib intensity and hints of blood orange, building into vibrant red fruit tones. Smooth, velvety tannins carry through a lengthy, bright mineral finish reminiscent of ironstone and wet river rock. Charming and captivating, it is all too easy to drink – especially after tasting through the more powerfully structured single-vineyard wines in the portfolio. A good portion of Upper Range, with some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot comes from Ecotone, some Sleeping Lady in Yountville, and Franz Hill in Calistoga as well.
