Johannisberg Riesling was one of the initial plantings at Joseph Phelps Vineyards’ inception in 1973, confirming Joe Phelps’ penchant for innovation and thinking outside the box. Made in the style of a German Eiswein, this vintage oozes orange syrup, amber and molasses aromas. There's a palpable heft and weight to the palate, packed with walnut oil, salted caramel and apricot compote, with a lively, zingy acidity lying underneath. An interesting, enjoyable time capsule of Napa’s past.
