It is almost opaque with a ruby centre and a slight brick-red rim. Alluring aromatics of dark, crunchy black cherry, blackberry, and tobacco-laced currants are complemented by a heady pop of that fragrant Spring Mountain garrigue—a remarkable expression even a decade on. Full-bodied, with powerful, muscular mountain tannins, the wine also offers notes of black liquorice, ironstone minerals, leather, and dried rose petals. The tannins are so robust and well-structured that you'd be hard-pressed to guess this is a 10-year-old wine—perhaps '10-year-young' is more fitting! Tasted in early September 2024 at the Napa Valley Vintners in St. Helena, California, as part of a lineup showcasing Napa Valley’s 2014 vintage a decade on.
