Riversmoke Vineyard lies not far from El Diablo, planted on fractured Franciscan sandy soils—ancient sea-floor material pressed into rock. It’s a colder site than El Diablo, set on a very steep west-facing slope and exposed to extreme weather. The wine is incredibly bright and profoundly structured, framed by chalky, white-pepper–inflected tannins that carry a distinct spiciness. The fruit remains beautifully balanced and never overripe, showing cranberry, cherry, and pomegranate seed character, with a pop of blood orange and a cocoa-powder freshness that carries the wine through to a long, soaring tannic finish. Profoundly structured and deeply delicious.
