A very lovely and restrained Syrah from the Los Olivos District AVA in Santa Barbara County from owner-winemaker James Sparks. Resonates with high-toned aromas of black cherry laced with vanilla, white pepper, and cedarwood. Aromatic candied violets emerge on the palate and are enveloped in decadent creamy blackberry, creme de cassis, and wet slate minerals. The depth and richness of the fruit is almost hypnotic. Slivers of dark chocolate emerge through the finish. Medium-bodied with racy acidity, it is a dark horse of a wine lifted by freshness and easily a Northern Rhône lookalike.
