Nigel Kinsman says that Aberro (meaning "stray" or "wander") is a word for things that "rock our world" but do not qualify for the single-vineyard bottlings. It is from the Le Mani Vineyard in the Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, Oregon. Fermented with 15% whole cluster and aged with 20% new French oak for 18 months. The aromatics are intense and gorgeous. There is black cherry fruit, and meaty intensity, with white pepper and blackcurrant ,charcuterie notes, and candied violets with the suavest, most succulent texture. This wine is truly impressive, showing beautiful dark fruit intensity alongside a saline mineral drive that balances power with levity. It captures the best of both the Old World and the New World: otherworldly and absolutely riveting. Espresso bean notes, cherry fruit, and charcuterie nuances of black fruit all come together with gorgeously integrated tannins, blue-fruited lift, and mineral intensity that resonates through the long, beautifully elegant finish. So delicious, and so tempting to finish two bottles in one sitting.
