The 2023 La Pelle Sauvignon Blanc was produced in a Sancerre style, owner-winemaker Maayan Koschitzky told me. Sourced from dry-farmed old vines in St Helena, whole-cluster pressed, settled overnight, then barrelled down and cold-fermented over eight weeks. Aged 16 months on the lees, and, as I’ve said before, it’s an experiential acid-trip. In this vintage, it’s fun and easy-drinking yet driven by ripping acidity, with loads of lemon and lime fruit, white flowers, crushed almonds and a long, lingering salty-velvety crushed-rock character laced with beeswax on the finish. What a fabulous white wine.
