Larkmead dates to 1895 and has been owned by the Solari family since 1948, making it one of Napa Valley’s longest-established family estates. Winemaker Avery Heelan helms the cellar. Keyline forms part of Larkmead’s Research Block Series, part of an experimental initiative exploring grape varieties suited to warmer growing conditions. The 2023 is a blend of Shiraz, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Charbono, Touriga Nacional and Zinfandel. It was matured for 20 months in neutral French oak. Jonathan Cristaldi: A glass-staining, inky black wine, deeply concentrated with a full-bodied palate expression. Glycerol and polished wet-stone minerals on the finish. Certainly a crowdpleaser Jenica Flippo: An opaque red full of intense blackberry, plum and blueberry compote character. Subtle eucalyptus and graphite emerge on the finish, all framed by long, gripping tannins. Cara Patricia: A true blend, tasting how I think people believe Napa blends do taste. Blackberry syrup and intensely dark fruit, like a dry Port. I can see folks loving this.
