Sourced from the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard (Blocks CF – F2a, F2a; CS – C1). The Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes were co-fermented in 100% concrete and then aged for 20 months in 72% new French oak. Winemaker Matt Sands finds that blending or co-fermenting Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc works exceptionally well for a primarily Cabernet Franc bottling in Napa. In 2022, the timing was perfect, and both the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon were ready for harvest on 12 September. The wine showcases tobacco and toasty cedarwood notes interwoven with dark salted cocoa. Immediately juicy and rich, it reveals deep concentration balanced by a remarkable lightness. The tannins have a beautifully sweet quality, texturally ultra-fine and packed, forming a solid foundation for this highly expressive Cabernet. There’s an almost maple-syrup-like richness, but it never feels cloying—instead, it evokes perfectly ripe sweet black fruit laced with tobacco. The finish is exceptionally long, with expressive saline, dark fruit, and mineral elegance.
