Founder Brian Cunat started Cunat Family Vineyards in 2007 upon purchasing 20ha in Napa’s Oak Knoll District appellation as an investment. Some of the vineyards were planted to Merlot from the beginning, demonstrating a real commitment to the variety in a region where Cabernet is king. Right Bank is a nod to both the Bordeaux tradition and the vineyard’s proximity to the banks of the Napa river. Merlot with 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in 51% new French oak. Ronan Sayburn MS: Broad and ripe. Rich dark chocolate and dark fruit. Mint and sage herbal quality. Tight and lean, with muscular tannins. Elegant and youthful. Eugenio Egorov: On the nose, notes of red fruits, wild strawberries, cherries and plums, with hints of black pepper, clove and vanilla bean. Good complexity. Ben Gubbins: Blue and red fruits, floral notes. Fine-grained tannins. Liquorice and dark chocolate on the finish. Well-balanced structure, but a tad heavy on the oak.
