Sourced from a ridgetop of rare ancient shale soil, with southwest exposure, 95% Merlot is blended with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from Los Carneros. Native yeast fermented aged in Stockinger foudres after the first year in elevage in 225-liter barrels with 20% new French oak. It's downright pretty, with a host of rose-petal florals infusing the cherry and raspberry fruit profile, or juicy Santa Rosa plum, with plum-skin tannins, a lovely baking-spice note of vanilla layered with higher-toned bay laurel, bringing a kind of minty freshness factory.
