For elegant, finesse-driven styles of Napa red wines that are almost Claret-like, Matthiasson is the ticket. After 10 years of bottle age, this gorgeous red opens with soft aromatics that build with intensity after time in the glass. A heady mix of blackberry, plum, and deep forest underbrush gives way to a medium-bodied red featuring lacy, elegant red-toned fruits and cedar-kissed black tea tannins. Crunchy cherry-bright acidity and dried tobacco spices flourish on the finish. Intensely fresh, with plenty of zip, and will keep in the cellar for another couple of decades. Merlot-dominant with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, sourced from the Red Hen Vineyard, Meadowbrook, and The Matthiasson Vineyard. Aged in 50% new French oak. Just 370 cases were produced.
