Merryvale owner René Schlatter, originally from Switzerland, introduced Arvine to their portfolio by grafting the variety onto vines at a former vineyard within the Stanly Ranch in Carneros (though they still source fruit from the site). The bud wood was sourced from U.C. Davis, and the first vintage harvested was in 2022. For this 2023 release, the grapes are direct-pressed, settled overnight, and fermented and aged in once-used barrels for 10 months before bottling. This wine features a rich, almost oily mid-palate texture, beautifully balanced by a cool fruit profile. It reveals a heady mix of white peach, apricot, and Meyer lemon, complemented by a long and satisfying finish with hints of warming spice and a touch of Parmigiano rind. A compelling and complex white wine that lingers elegantly on the palate.
